Original Question

Directions: For this discussion we will use the procedure below to collect heart rate and respiratory rates to determine if video games effect heart rate and breathing rates while playing them. Procedure: Pick a video game to play, this may be a game APP from your phone, Xbox, PC, online, Nintendo (I don’t know they may still be around), ATARI (for those of you who like antiques), Ipad, Angry Birds, Candy-Crush, Halo, Call of Duty, etc, as long as it is a video game of your choice that you like to play that you may already have. Play your game several times a day for 3 days. The more times the game is played the more data points you can collect. The more data collected the better your statistics will be. Play your game for at least 3 days, 3 times per day. Collect your pre-game heart rate (take your pulse using your radial/wrist pulse, count your pulse for 30 seconds using a timer and multiply it by 2), record your pre-game heart rate. Collect your pre-game respiratory rate (respiratory rate is counted as inhale/exhale-one count respirations for 30 seconds using a timer and multiply it by 2), record your pre-game respiratory rate. Play your game for 15 minutes. Collect your post-game heart rate and respiratory rate as detailed above. Don’t forget to record your data. Repeat playing your game at least 3 times per day, for 3 days. The more times you play and record your data, the more data collected, the better statistics you will have. After collecting and recording data calculate the following statistics for both respiratory and heart rate. Average/Mean total/# data entries Mode: the number that happens the most Range: the largest number – the smallest number Median: the number in the middle Using your data, construct a table for both respiratory and heart rate. Using your data, construct a graph for both respiratory and heart rate. Questions: 1) What game did you play? 2) Please post your graphs and tables. 3) What were your median, mode, and range? 4) What are the dependent and independent variables in this experiment? 5) What variables should be controlled for in this experiment? 6) How might this experiment be improved?
