1. What went well in clinical today? I have not completed two 12 hour shifts back to back. I was nervous about how tired I was going to be and how I was going to function in clinical. I’ve raised five children, worked full time and attended school full time. I have gone through days working like a living zombie. Up to recently, I was an educator/administrator, and my days were 8-10 hours. I survived the second day and overall did well. I was paired with a travel nurse. Her name was Leigha and she was quiet and not emotive. She was an okay teacher. It was a dramatic start to the day when the charge nurse was giving out assignments. My nurse had 7 patients and I think every nurse on the MedSurg floor had 7 patients. One of the travel nurses became very upset and was very vocal about it. I was able to log on to the computer today. I was able to get into each patients chart and chart assessments, provide meds and actually find patient information on my own. 2. What could have gone better in clinical today? Navigating the computer. I have not used Cerner in a while but I know it will come back to me. Keeping my energy level up was a challenge. I did go to bed early the night before but I found it challenging to sleep. I take care of myself by eating well, exercising and getting sleep but I am getting used to this schedule.
