Unit 2 – Generalized weakness, frailty and hospital-associated deconditioning Your patient is an 86-year-old female recently hospitalized for a urinary tract infection. At baseline, she used a cane when going outdoors and no device indoors. She resides in an independent retirement community which provides meals. Now she is requiring the use of a walker and is having difficulty walking the 350 feet to and from the dining room. She reports overall fatigue and low appetite. This patient has been receiving PT for the past 2 weeks. Her established program is gait training for safety with a front-wheeled walker. She is also using a stationary bicycle x 5 mins with light resistance, and performing seated and standing AROM exercise, which the patient is learning to perform for a home exercise program. (ALL GROUPS ANSWER BOTH QUESTIONS) Do you feel these interventions reflect best evidence? Why or why not?
