Original Question
The survey broke the desired qualities into four different sections, which were attitudes, personal qualities, intrinsic qualities, and acquired skills. Of the top ten desired qualities, four were from acquired skills, three from personal qualities, two from attitudes, and one from the intrinsic qualities. Acquired skills are skills/habits that develop overtime, through experience. My list of top three acquired skills consisted of decisive, assertive, and a good communicator. I’m an ER nurse and I believe these skills are imperative to running a busy emergency department. Comparing to the national survey, I had one similarity to each of the attitude and acquired skills section. My similarities were a good communicator for the acquired skills and approachable for the attitude section. According to Van Dam and Ford, social interactions are essential to catalyzing the learning process to becoming a leader (Van Dam & Ford, 2019). After a social interaction, there are four stages to the learning process, which are reflecting, discovering, deciding, and choosing (Van Dam & Ford, 2019). The study concluded that nursing managers, new and experienced, should be supported throughout the learning process to further develop themselves (Van Dam & Ford, 2019). According to Raso, honestly is a characteristic of the authentic leadership style, which is known to have positive patient safety and healthy work environment (Raso, 2019). Various studies have found that nursing leaders are the key to a healthy work environment (Raso, 2019). Having an honest, open, and approachable leader could boost staff morale and production. I believe that honesty is best paired with trustworthiness, which is why I put honesty as my number one and trustworthy as my number two. If I ever had a leader who was dishonest, I would lose trust for this person, and it would be hard for me to work under them. I would like to believe that most leaders in this world are honest, as I have never personally come across a dishonest leader. I have never been in a leadership position, but I would like to exemplify honesty, supportive, and good communication. I can integrate these qualities into my current nursing practice which would really allow me to grow as a team player. QUESTION Analyze the article. what do you think of the article above
