Respond to this discussion in one paragraph The purpose of vital records it to maintain a record-keeping system of births, deaths, and fetal deaths. A good example of a vital records is a “Death Certificate”. We are not only able to learn the sex of the person, date of birth, date of expiration but also we are also able to learn the cause of death, time and place. One of the first demographers was John Graunt (1620 – 1674). He is credited for producing the first life table giving probabilities of survival. Based on the information he recorded which included age of the person, sex, date of death and cause of death (accident, disease). He was able to learn how many persons died yearly and from what kind of events or disease. These same information is collected today, to determine if more resources is needed in a community. Every year the New York State Cancer Registry and Cancer Statistics utilizes this information in reporting their findings. It is helpful to have reliable records because provides a snapshot of a population at any time. The data collected as smoking history, family history of cancer, type of job, sex and race bring us closer to understanding the socioeconomics disparities.
