The issue is further aggravated by the bradycardia, which causes a reduced flow of blood to the affected area. ST depression and T wave inversion are also considered independent indicators of new onset heart failure. Sinus bradycardia is the arrhythmia most commonly associated with acute inferior wall myocardial infarction. Other potential causes of bradycardia include the following: reperfusion rhythm following myocardial reperfusion procedures such as thrombolytic administration, angioplasty vagal stimulation; sleep apnea hyperkalemia increased intracranial pressure disease of SA node administration of drugs such as digitalis, calcium channel blockers, and beta blockers. Sustained bradycardia may result in decreased cardiac output as a result of a decrease in heart rate. Cardiac output = stroke volume × heart rate. A decrease in either stroke volume or heart rate may result in a decrease in cardiac output. For patients presenting with symptomatic bradycardia, initial treatment is with oxygen and atropine IV push. If the initial treatment is unsuccessful, external pacing or transvenous pacing may be used. Chronic sinus bradycardia may necessitate a permanent pacemaker. For a patient presenting with the above rhythm, further evaluation is needed as there is likely an underlying cardiac condition that needs to be treated.’
