I think it is unfortunate there is not successful federal program today that can care for the elderly population. Despite many individuals having saved money for their younger years, the cost of long-term care is still unsustainable or a burden on their families. Depending on what level of care is needed, there is no way it is affordable. Though many state and federal programs exist, the fact that Medicare does not support long-term care is unacceptable. In addition, many elderly do not qualify for Medicaid. There are many variables associated to providing long-term care for the elderly population. One way is to modify the eligibility requirements for Medicaid so the elderly can qualify. Even if long-term insurance plans are developed, most elderly would continue to struggle with contributing just as many do with Medicare deductions. There needs to be a government federal fund created to specifically to address long-term care. Just as millions of dollars are funded yearly for organizations outside of the United States, one can be created for the growing population. If a program is created to facilitate expanding long-term care, additional attention must be to recruiting more health care professionals to include wage increases as the demand increases. Expanding and funding a long-term care program would increase various types of care. F
