You need to be about to accurately input these codes, or the betterment of the patient’s diagnosis, tests and treatments and it all come down to correct use of the ICD code system. One piece of new information I learned is that the medical and surgical section contains the majority of PCS codes, all of which are used solely in U.S. inpatient hospital settings. I can use this information in my future career in allied health by studying these codes and the policies to ensure I know what is being used in the U.S. If I am working abroad, I’d need to know the policies from different places in and outside of the U.S. I will also give me insight to knowledge of different code systems so I can be prepared to represent my facility and coworkers with the Lessons I’ve learned when applying them to patient work.
