Original Question
Reflect to this discussion ” Several things about these verses were most impactful to me; one was that we all must answer for what we have done. Eli knew he had done wrong and that he was going to have to answer for his wrongdoings. Another impactful part of this verse I could incorporate into my practice is when Samuel heard his name called. It wasn’t until Eli told him to go and lie back down and answer when his name was called. I discussed this scripture with my fiancé to see what impacted him, and he was more impacted by what God told Samuel. I told him that when I read it a second time, I correlated Samuel’s hearing of the voice to a person who responds to internal stimuli. Eli gave him simple directions: go and lie back down and answer when he heard his name being called. We as providers give our patients directions to help them cope with what they are experiencing, and they depend on us to give them the answers they need to get through their dilemma. Samuel trusted Eli and assumed it was him who was calling his name; I am sure several thoughts were going through Samuel’s mind as Eli informed him that he had not called him. As I write this paper, I can only imagine how Samuel felt. There had to be some questions he had when he kept being turned around by Eli after hearing his name called. As a provider, I would reassure my client just as Eli reassured Samuel. I would ensure that I helped my patient to the best of my ability by asking if he/she understood what was being said, whether it was clear or just noise. Showing empathy and compassion will always be the foundation of my practice. I would encourage my patients to explore what they are hearing if that is the case, and I would also encourage them to express what they are feeling, reassuring them that what they say will be confidential and handled with care.
