Please read the following information about the subject of this Case Study: Mr Ding Case Study Mr Yun Ding is a 79 year old Asian gentleman who presented to the Emergency Department with new onset left-sided facial droop, left-sided arm and leg weakness, slurred speech and a sudden onset of a severe headache seven (7) days ago. Mr Ding has a past medical history of transient ischaemic attacks (T.I.A.s) x 2 in the past year. Risk factors include: • Hypertension • Obesity • High salt, high fat diet • Sedentary lifestyle A CT scan revealed a right-sided thrombotic cerebrovascular accident (C.V.A.) that was treated with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). Post the C.V.A., Mr Ding has been admitted to the rehabilitation ward that you are working on. Mr Ding has the following issues: • Left sided hemiplegia and neglect • Impulsive issues (easily frustrated, undresses in front of people) • Impaired judgement (short term memory issues, forgets instructions) Rehabilitation plan: • Discharge home with services • Mr Ding’s wife, Mayvera, will be his primary carer. His son, Chris lives with them and works full-time.
