Please help grade this assignment in a short paragraph: eflective Journal Mikayla Lewis 06/07/25 Reflect on your clinical day: 1. What were your initial reactions to your clinical site? My initial thoughts about this clinical site was how tight the security was. Even though I expected that from a mental institution, I was still in awe that every single door required a key. Nonetheless, I think that this is a great safety feature for both patients and staff. As it pertains to the patient floors, I was anxious at first because I have never been in a setting like that. It was both overwhelming and sad to see some patients just pacing back and forth, responding to internal stimuli and some just looked dazed because of the medications. I felt a sense of gratitude that I had a sound mind and was not subjected to a facility like this. It made me realize how blessed I was. 2. Briefly describe an interaction that you had with a client. Describe the client’s behavior(both verbal and non-verbal)as it relates to the manifestation of symptoms. Describe your thoughts and feelings during this interaction Today I had the pleasure of interacting with a pleasant young woman diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and BPD. I introduced myself to her and she was responsive which indicated that she is coherent and is able to hold a conversation. Her voice was soft and I thought about how pleasant she seemed. I was able to observe her behavior for about an hour. For starters, she paced back and forth a lot and seemed to stare off into space most times. I also noticed that every time she walked back-and-forth near the water fountain, she had a cup and was constantly drinking water. I checked her chart and saw that she was on lithium for her BPD, which made sense as this was a major side effect of lithium. 3. What did you do/say that you feel was “therapeutic” for your patient? One thing I did that I thought was therapeutic for the patient was that I asked her how she was doing today. I got a slight smile as she noted that she was OK. I felt that in that moment she felt seen. 4. Identify one aspect of the interaction that was satisfying to you. One aspect of the interaction that was satisfying to me was seeing her smile. 5. Name some part of the interaction that you would have done differently. One thing I wish I did differently was ask more questions and just get to know more about who she is as a person; her likes, dislikes, more deeper questions. I think this is fine because I will be interviewing her next week so I will make sure that I get all my questions answered if she’s still willing to speak to me. 6. Discuss any other thoughts and reactions regarding the clinical day Overall, I think that this clinical day went really well. I am grateful for the opportunity to observe today. This was very new to me so initially I was nervous but I got more comfortable as time went on. I look forward to learning more about mental health and the many disease processes
