Original Question
PART ONE–Paying Attention (4-6 complete sentences in your own words) This week’s quote posted in Moodle is about paying attention. This part of your posting will further consider paying attention. (It is not necessary that your posting specifically relate to or comment on anything in the Week 2 quote posted in Moodle). Quote for Week Two: From “Paying Attention: A Leap Toward Quality Care”: Paying attention to others, our surroundings, and ourselves is a powerful component of “mindful practice” (Epstein 2003a) and requires an internal discipline that means that nothing is accepted as routine. Using all of our sensory and cognitive resources, paying attention occurs by listening, noticing details, and taking actions that change the course of events. Similar to vigilance, it encompasses staying alert and on guard for the unexpected or unpredictable in order to take necessary and quick action. When all staff are paying attention to early or weak signs of potential resident care or staff management issues, information relevant to decision-making can be shared and used before such issues escalate into larger problems. Because early warning signs of change or danger (whether it is something as simple as recognizing that a resident is chilled and needs a sweater, or as complex as impending stroke), are by definition unexpected, staying “tuned in” and expecting the unexpected is key to fostering resilient and reliable organizational environments (Coutu 2003) (Entire article is online, available at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1948878/). What things first come to your mind when “paying attention” is mentioned? Write about at least one of those in this part of your posting. Then consider how “paying attention” is important in this class. Give at least one example of “paying attention” from your first week in class. If there is something about “paying attention” in this class that you would like to improve upon, mention that in this part of your posting. PART TWO–Learning Resources Write no more than 4-6 complete sentences in your own words for this part of your posting. Your entire posting–including both Part One and Part Two–should be no more than 8-12 complete sentences. In this second part of your posting, write about one or two learning resources that you found useful during the first week of class–or something that you didn’t use during the first week but will try out this week. Learning resources for class include the ReadAnywhere app from McGraw-Hill, the Audio Glossary in Connect, the read-only files with Appendix A and the Glossary from the hard-copy textbook posted in Connect for quick reference, Quizlet and/or hard-copy flashcards, Recharge/Self Study in Connect, the clickable pronunciations to listen to in the Connect ebook, Pronunciation Respelling Notes posted in Moodle, and the pronunciation feature on the Merriam-Webster site. If you found an app, website, etc. not mentioned above that was particularly useful to your preparation for class during the first week, mention that in this part of your posting.
