Over the past year, Mrs. LaBar has had the pleasure of precepting many novice TTP nurses. Throughout the course of the year, Mrs. LaBar has been provided education/taught TTP nurses about utilizing IV pumps. Here at the VA our IV pumps are a little different than the ones utilized in private sector. Mrs. LaBar noticed how shy at first newer nurses were when it came to utilizing IV pumps. While this seemed to be with quite a few nurses, Mrs. LaBar made it priority to go over all the steps to setup the IV pole with the tubing, going over the medication library and going over different scenarios of what could happen prior to going in the Veteran’s room. Sharing this knowledge with newer nurses created a positive outcome for every nurse, Mrs. LaBar precepted. Mrs. LaBar’s favorite part of being a preceptor is seeing what motivates the learner. Mrs. LaBar has noticed completing wound care interests a lot of people. Wound care can include different types of treatments depending upon the wound’s location, type and other factors. Being part of the Rehab neighborhood Mrs. LaBar has seen a variety of wound care and has shared her knowledge with her preceptees. Mrs. LaBar taught one preceptee how to utilize a wound vac and complete a wound vac dressing change successfully.
