Original Question

Sam Jones is a 25-year-old white man. He has a past medical history of cystic fibrosis diagnosed at age 2 and cystic fibrosis related diabetes diagnosed last year. He was also complaining of shortness of breath. Sam was taken to the OR for drainage of the abscessed port access site. While in the OR he became short of breath and his pulse ox dropped to 88%. He was sent to the ICU after the procedure. Sam returned from surgery with a Jackson Pratt drainage system on his right abdomen. He continued to deteriorate and was placed on a ventilator.
