According to stopbullying.gov, a website created by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, three ways a child can protect themselves and cope against bullying are; keep calm, talk to an adult about the situation, find a way to make light of the situation (2021). Additionally, as the victim, the next time Juan is being bullied and harassed, he can involve the school’s counselor to mediate and find solutions. Individualized teaching for Juan “junior” compounds; becoming comfortable with other kids like him, maintaining a healthy coping mechanism other than comfort eating, and confiding in an adult.
