Using this example On my diploma of nursing placement for acute health, I encountered an experience when one of the patients who came in urgent care due to unexpected new symptoms they were experiencing. The Patient had a high temperature and was tachypnoea. The doctor reviewed the case and send pathology which came back positive for sepsis. The doctor immediately reviewed his med chart and charted the patient for IV antibiotics. Due to the patient being morbidly obesity the doctor couldn’t get a vein after 9 try’s. The doctor decided to perform a IO to get the antibiotics in immediately. In a sterile surgical environment when the patient was awake the doctor inserted lidocaine to numb the area and started to inject the antibiotics into the bone. Having never seen this before inside I was freaking out but I stayed really calm and really professional and providing empathy to the patient when they really needed someone. I also had the opportunity to inject antibiotics intramuscular right before he got sent to Melbourne by AV.
