Original Question
respond to this discussion board answer: Dealing with conflict between coworkers, management and other staff members can be difficult. In the hospital setting it is easy to disagree with other nurses, residents or physicians. Sadly, sensing animosity is prominent in this setting because people are quick to avoid others who disagree with them. From personal experience, most conflicts arise from different opinions on treatment plans for the patients, but mostly due to the lack of communication without explanation. As stated by Barki & Hartwick (2001), “Conflicts are inevitable and are even vital for interprofessional team effectiveness. Conflict is defines in many ways but generally includes disagreement, interference and negative emotion.” (p. 157). Even though we want to avoid conflict with members of the interprofessional team, sometimes it helps improve the work dynamic. Communicating with each other and listening to concerns can get a specific message across to one another. Not only should we listen to team members words, but their body language as well. Body language is a key component regarding interpersonal communication. As a result of this, collaboration and effective decisions are made for our patients.
