Question- The most common sampling method is the convenience sample; therefore, many of the studies that you find for evidence use this sampling method. What are the implications of using a convenience sample on the way that you interpret and use the findings? Discussion- Hello Professor, There are many sampling methods out there and one of the most popular one is convenience sampling. According to the Houser, “a nonprobability method of selecting a sample that includes subjects who are available conveniently to the researcher” (Houser, 2018). Convenience sampling is cost effective, and many researchers work on limited budgets and are on tight timeline to publish the study. In the digital age of internet and social media, it is extremely easy to reach out to the masses very efficiently and quickly. The convenience comes at the expense of the data reliability. According to Simkus (2022), studies containing convenience sampling will have less external validity as greater community assumes sampling bias attached with the sampling methodology. Convenience sampling is very good for qualitative research method. There is lesser need of the precise objective data for the qualitative research method. As qualitative research method is mostly subjective data. Our group project of social media and its mental effects will contain lots of convenience sampling. Our critical thinking skills will have to be applied to root out any perceived biases. Thanks. Reference: Houser, J. (2018). Nursing research: Reading, using, and creating evidence (4th ed.).
