Key Explanation

This topic involves please note this. A strong answer should include explanation, application, and examples.

Original Question

Please note, this week’s assignment has two parts. Be sure to use the attached template to help with this weeks submission. PART 1: Approach this project as if you’re an aspiring athletic trainer or coach and have been assigned to the sport of your choice. The purpose of the CAP’s and Critical Assignment is to make you aware of common injuries athletes may face and how to assess, rehabilitate, and prevent them. It’s important to understand the process athletic trainers go through and the coach’s responsibilities so they are better prepared to protect their athlete from future injury. What is Due: Identify a sport of your choice, including age (youth, high school, or college) and sex (Boys College Soccer). Provide a brief rationale for why you chose the sport and demographic. Additionally, research and list the three most common musculoskeletal injuries you would expect to see in this sport. For each injury, you need to list the mechanism of injury (MOI), how it happened. Ex: while coming down from a rebound, the players foot landed on an opposing players foot causing it to invert. Additionally, you need to identify the muscle(s), ligament(s), and/or bone(s) effected in the injury. Ex: an inversion ankle sprain is a stretching or tearing of the anterior talofibular ligament, posterior talofibular ligament, and calcaneofibular ligament. Lastly, you need to identify any environmental factors (climate, playing surface, etc.) that could influence or cause injury, and provide your reasoning as to why it might play a role in the injuries identified. Additionally, using chapter 1, briefly identify and discuss two roles and responsibilities associated with athletic training. Additionally, connect how one might relate to a biblical principle. For example, athletic trainers are encouraged to explain the importance of nutrition, overall wellness, and lifestyle choices (Prentice, 2020). Similarly, the Apostle Paul shares in Romans, “As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand” (English Standard Version, 2011, Romans 14:1-4). In other words, we are not called to impose our will on others, but rather, show kindness and love to build trusting relationships and lead by example rather than words alone. Keep in mind that professionalism is a part of this assignment. A minimum of two peer-reviewed/credible sources should be cited following current APA guidelines (see Week 0 for formatting help). Your submission should be approximately 2-3 pages (in addition to the title page and reference section), double spaced, 12 pt. font, with a proper running head and page numbers. Lastly, please provide level two headings to organize your writing. For example, the first header might be Chosen Sport and Population. The next could be Three Common Musculoskeletal Injuries. PART 2: This week you are examining the foot, ankle, and lower leg. According to Fong et al. (2007), sprained ankles are the most common injury associated with physically active populations. Inversion ankle sprains account for approximately 90% of ankle sprains (Prentice, 2020), and in many cases, results in a Grade 2 sprain of the anterior talofibular ligament. One of the primary treatments for this injury involves taping the ankle using the closed basket weave technique. For this assignment, ask a friend or family member to allow you to tape their ankle in this fashion. Refer to Chapter 8 and the video below for assistance with wrapping and taping (specifically the closed basketweave). Videotape the process and explain step by step what you are doing and why. Use of proper anatomical terminology is required. Please include the video link in the same document as PART 1. References Fong, D., Hong, Y., Chan, L., Yung, P., Chan, K. (2007). Principles of athletic training: A competency-based approach (17th ed.). McGraw Hill. What is Due: Video of you taping a volunteer’s ankle using the closed basket weave technique Video Guidelines: You and your volunteer must appear together in full frame at the onset of the video (you might need someone else holding the camera) Introduce yourself and your volunteer and describe the movement that will be performed Dress professionally Interact with your volunteer in a professional, clinical manner Film your volunteer performing the movement using your cell phone or other HD camera. If you are using a cell phone, it must be in landscape mode Use anatomical terminology in all descriptions of movement Be sure the movement is clearly visible from appropriate angles – you may want to film the movement being performed multiple times from different angles to give the viewer the best idea of what is going on Be sure your video has appropriate audio so that you can be clearly heard (do not film in a noisy gym) Upload the video to YouTube, be sure the video is set to “unlisted” and paste the URL below **Please know that I do not expect perfect tape jobs, in fact, this is a skill that is attained over hundreds of repetitions. This assignment is not meant to make you an expert taper nor does it qualify you to apply this method in the field; however, it will “scratch the itch” for those of you who are interested in this field and may propel you into this career if you are on the fence and enjoy the experience**
