Please give a response to my post I felt comfortable and knowledgeable in Ms. Lee’s simulation. I was re educated on how we need to approach patients who are in abusive situations, and was able to practice therapeutic communication techniques. The additional information I would need to treat Ms. Lee would be a truthful drug history and further detail about her relationship.I would like to know why she is staying in this relationship, is it fear? financial? confusion? brainwashing? Did she “fall down” on purpose? My interventions would change if Ms. Lee disclosed regular substance abuse in different ways, we would need to care for the withdrawl that would soon come, as well as prep to have a baby who could possibly have birth abnormalities and/or addiction. I would also be giving her resources for substance abuse meetings, therapists, and rehabs. In the simulations itself I did not see and specific resources for substance abuse, I did see the abuse screening but do not recall any hot line or number to be given out to the patient for safety issues and reporting. I will apply this to my everyday nurses by being aware that not all abuse patients are forthcoming. It is essential to approach all patients with compassion and understanding. I will use active listening, and be mindful of the surrounding do my best to provide a supportive environment and alwasy advocate for their needs.By doing this it will help me better support and care for all individuals I encounter at work.
