Obstacle Course Description of the situation Last month, I observed Zayn pushing a doll pram outdoor and he was making use of his big muscles while pushing it along the bike tracks, and other uneven surfaces. I also planned to support him through an obstacle course activity. Last week, I asked if he wants to walk in the stepping stones and the beam balance but he said “No”. There was also an instance that he asked me to hold his hand while walking in the corner of the sandpit where there are stones lined up. Today, the educators set up an obstacle course indoor, in which Zayn happily participated. Observation I started lining up the traffic cones on the mat and asked the children if they wanted to participate in the obstacle course activity. They looked eager and excited and I explained how to play the activity. They then ran energetically. “Zayn, would you like to have a turn?” I asked him. He put his “salamander” plush toy on the table and run beside each in every orange cone. “I want to do it again Ms Marvi. “Go for it, Zayn.” After that, I added some objects “wooden trees” as the object as that they will carry to place in the basket which indicates that they have reached the finish line. Zayn did another round and paused to give way for his friends who are having their turn. When I observed Zayn getting more enthusiastic with the activity, I added another element, the “table” that works like a tunnel for the the children to crawl. After I gave instructions, Zayn crawled under the table as fast as he could and threw a big smile once he completed the course. As we continued to be physically active in the room, some of the children showed different poses of exercise to us such as lying down and raising the legs on air, hip bridge, and push ups. “Look at me Ms Marvi, I do exercise”. Zayn proudly shared with us. After that, we extended on their interest. Ms Renuka was modelled a cat yoga pose. While she was doing the pose, Zayn decided to crawl through her just as the previous activity (crawling under the table) . Ms Renuka also modeled other animal yoga poses and the children, including Zayn were happy to participate with. Zayn continued challenging his gross motor skills and balance skills by climbing up on the puzzle table. Slowly but surely, he stood up tall and said I’m standing on the table”. Good balancing, Zayn.
