This is also completely out of your view so just kinda help me extend my topic more and add information I was unable to add, Thank you. My writing is below This week, the man-made incident I would like to share is the California wildfire called Camp Fire in 2018. It caused 85 deaths, destroyed more than 18,000 buildings, and swept through 153,336 acres over 16 days; it is the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history (FEMA, 2020). There were numerous resources for the Camp Fire victims, such as free N-95 masks, toiletries, animal shelters, donations from banks and the community. Food, evacuation centers, medical information, mental health services, and housing resources were also provided (Resources to support camp fire victims, n.d.). FEMA has provided more than $238 million in assistance to local and state government agencies and residents to support recovery from the Camp Fire and developed the 72-acre Gridley Industrial Park, with 289 manufactured housing units and mobile homes for thousands of displaced Butte County residents. (FEMA, 2020). In November 2018, the President declared the existence of a significant disaster in the State of California, required a coordinated effort between local, state, and federal government, nongovernmental organizations, the private sector, and volunteers to support Butte County in its response and long-term recovery efforts (FEMA, 2020). The team carried out discussions with 157 first responders, local officials, and utility personnel during the fire to map the timeline of the fire. The team documented sightings of fire or smoke and efforts to fight the fire or evacuate, as well as insights into community preparedness and weather conditions. Forty-five minutes into the fire, the incident commander leading the emergency response recognized the fire’s speed and intensity and ordered his personnel to abandon all firefighting efforts and instead keep the evacuation going; up to 50,000 people were evacuated (NIST, 2021). Due to the combustion of building materials such as heavy metal, roofing tiles, and insulations resulting in dangerous ash fall, exposure to hazardous materials may lead to acute and chronic health effects. However, Butte county allowed persons displaced by the Camp Fire to move back on their property once the evacuation orders were lifted. I believe this order should be sought better because it can increase the risk of their long-term health as they are around the debris of the hazardous ash and materials. Extensive housing should be provided until the property is certified clean. FEMA. (2020, November 5). FEMA’s committed to Butte County’s long-term campfire recovery. FEMA.gov.
