Original Question
I have witnessed the passing of the gamut – from John or Jane Does, young adults who have been pronounced brain dead, beloved coworkers, and community members, known and unknown. I have not reached the point of being numb to death. Whenever I pause for each death, I always end up shedding a few tears. I have always said, thought, and believed that death is a part of life, but I now see that death, while a universal experience, is not a “natural” part of God’s original creation (Hoehner, 2020). Nevertheless, I always feel more at peace when death is anticipated, and made more “bearable” with comfort measures and support for the families. When deaths are sudden, especially when the patient was just speaking to me earlier in the day – those affect me the most. It seems unfair when it seems to come without warning; because while, again, a universal experience, I believe that every person has the right to a dignified death. what you think ,references
