Original Question
I have mentioned before that the hemodialysis clinic in which I worked previously was not a friendly environment. There was little to no open communication, subordination, and little respect. It created an environment that was rather miserable to work in. The first thing I would do to help quality control is work at creating a less tense workplace. Beginning with incorporating open communication among staff, management, and patients. I would try with an open-door policy allowing staff to speak with management at any time. I didn’t feel that my manager cared for or valued my feelings. The act of valuing an employee can lead to massive changes in morale (Gibson et al., 2020).With happier staff comes better outcomes for the patients with an increase in their quality of care. I saw a lot of task focused care in this clinic. To bring true improvement the care should be patient focused. With the addition of only one or two staff to the floor the rush during turnover could all but be eliminated. Patients who feel rushed do not feel that they are getting the best care possible. Should post treatment complications arise an extra person on board helps to keep the flow of the clinic without disrupting the numerous other patients. This also allows for more time for therapeutic communication to happen. Therapeutic communication has been shown to increase the accuracy of diagnosis, identify the patient’s emotion and determine the best therapeutic measure, and improve identification of the patient’s perceptions and apprehensions around diagnosis and treatment options (Sharma & Gupta, 2022). Patients that feel heard by staff that actively listen are more likely to adhere to treatment regimes. What you think, references
