Original Question
In your responses this week, please try to comment on all three tricksters rather than just one. Were there any aspects of this week’s readings that you did not understand? There were a number of short myths on the course this week. Which of them did you find to be the most confusing? There were three separate trickster characters from three different cultures that were part of this week’s reading. Which one did you enjoy the most? If you did not enjoy any of them, why did you net enjoy any of them? Typically, trickster characters appeal to a modern, western audience (including most of the myths and legends students I’ve had so far) more than any other myth. Why do you think this is? What can they do that we cannot? What is the one predominant characteristic that distinguishes heroes from tricksters? Of the three tricksters, which is the most violent in attaining his ends? Why do you think this is? How are Anansi stories different from Raven stories? How are the Prometheus stories different from the Raven and Anansi stories (other than simply the language)?
