OA and OAS- Review the content for the week to familiarize yourself with the theory and best practices. Activity: FS- Book the ECED Lab. Learners go to the lab and learn to rearrange the space based on social and emotional learning. As a group assess the lab in the current layout, then create a floor plan together. Assign groups to physically change each space. Review and assess each space as a class. Participation marks will be assigned. OS- Provide time in groups to discuss, or for individuals to reflect, and then create floor plans. Use whiteboard to have the groups, or each individual, draw and share why they created this plan. Assign participation marks or use the drop box for assessment. OA and OAS- Activity: Create a representation of an ideal early childhood classroom that supports social-emotional development and wellbeing. You can create a drawing, a 3-dimensional diorama (using loose parts and other materials) or a digital plan using a computer program/graphics. You can pick any age group you like: Infants, Toddlers, Pre-schoolers, Out of School age and any group size you like. You must include a variety of play centres such as: dramatic play, blocks, library, art, gross motor, sensory and science, manipulatives (small table toys), tables for learning activities (games and puzzles), and allow for considerations of overlap play to happen and/or be promoted. As you create your floor plan, think critically of the learning environment as a dynamic system that can influence thoughts, feelings and behaviour and relationships.
