If we are to reduce the need for an ICU admission, further straining the family dynamic, then we need to prioritize patient safety. Risk of dysfunction in the family dynamic is related to multiple stressors as evidenced by new hospitalization, alcoholism, reduced visitation, and last term of pregnancy. Families as a whole are a functional unit, and with change and stress it can affect the dynamic.
