Original Question
Reply to the following two peers postings. Peer Post #1: After graduating I plan on still working with the disabled population. I am currently taking care of an elderly lady who lost her husband a year ago. I really enjoy seeing a smile on her face whenever I walk through the door. I never thought I would enjoy working with the disabled population but it has really been a blessing in disguise. Being a personal care attendant gives me a sense of purpose and helps enhance my own personal growth. I’ve always been an empathetic person and working with the disabled population has gave me the opportunity to build stronger relationships. At the moment I am not looking to further my education but there is a strong possibility that I may in the future to learn new skills and the knowledge to work with multiple different populations. Peer Post #2: Following graduation, I want to work in the school system. I have been talking to some people at Cumberland Valley Behavioral Health. This is the company I complete my first set of practicum hours with. This company puts counselors inside the school system to work with a certain client group. I want to work with the kids. There is actually an opening at my daughter’s school for this position. I am hopeful that I will be offered this position. My main focus is to work with children. When I was young, my dad died. My mom helped me get through it the best she could, but there was a lot going on for her too. I want to be a support person for children that are going through anything that children face. Today, children face so much more than they did when I was a kid. Going through these practicum hours in the school system has shown me that a lot of children need a stable support person. I want to be that person. I have not given continuing my education much thought. Right now, I am just thankful to have graduated this human service program. I joke with my wife that I am going to go on to get my Master’s degree, but I just can’t think about that right now. I know I will for sure be taking at least a year off to enjoy my family and my new career.
