I need help on how to respond to this… For the nursing sector to thrive as it should, leadership must be done in the right way. Leadership in nursing revolves around ensuring that working conditions are conducive enough to make it possible for quality care to be offered. It is with the right leadership in place that effective and quality service will be given which in turn ensures that the positive outcomes continue. The greatest challenge facing nurse leaders today is the current nursing shortage and the outcome associated with that care. Recently, much emphasis has been established on the quality of care provided and whether it meets specific standards, with better patient outcomes. Patient satisfaction with the quality of care provided is also an issue (Donley, 2019). To ensure that patients are satisfied with the care provided; management should ensure that nurses provide safe and quality care. Providing quality care, patient satisfaction, and ensuring effective measures for both is a responsibility for the entire hospital leadership team. The lack of nurses has negatively impacted the quality of care. In my facility, we have seen an increase in patient complaints. Some include not seeing the staff enough during the day, and others reported concerns about staff response time after calling for assistance. A common challenge that leadership also faces is tight budgets. Medical costs are high, making healthcare facilities suffer a blow since their budgets are rampantly decreasing. Therefore, nurse leadership has to figure out strategies on how to stay within the hospital budget without reducing the healthcare quality. Staff retention is also one of the challenges experienced by nurses in leadership positions. The number of nurses retiring is at an all-time high. Some nursing professionals are simply burned out, making it difficult to fill those positions. Nurse burnout concerns are also a challenge in nursing leadership one must face. Leaders should acknowledge and address the impact of nurse exhaustion. They should work diligently to discover ways to help the community of nurses copes with the heavy demands of healthcare. “Healthcare organizations should expand opportunities for nurses to lead and involve them on decision-making policies (Finkleman,2015)”. Those pursuing nursing leadership roles should understand the challenges they will have. They must be prepared to develop strategies to overcome these obstacles
