PEER DISCUSSION POST Hello, The claim I chose is “The blood type diet improves your health.” The 4yourtype website makes claims that all you need to do to drastically improve your health is eat a specific diet that follows whatever blood type you are. Claims include weight loss, mental clarity, reduction in allergies etc. However, a systematic review in 2013 reviewed over 1,400 different articles relating to the blood type diet. After the in depth analysis, the article states that “there is currently no evidence that an adherence to blood type diets will provide health benefits” (Cusack et al, 2013). Therefore I believe the claims about the blood type diet improving your health is pseudoscience. I believe that any felt effects of the diet are simply due to people eating healthier foods and better portions when starting the diet, nothing to do with what blood type you are. Another thing I noted about the 4yourtype website is the amount of supplements they sell for different blood types, that alone makes the concept seem like snakeoil to me. Things to consider: Do you agree with the other students’ conclusions? Can you provide information that contradicts what they found about their chosen claim? Does their chosen claim have some aspects of both science and pseudoscience? Cite sources used in APA format.
