Case Scenario Ken Davis has attended the centre where you work. You work for an aftercare agency that supports people who have been released from hospital. Ken has been referred by the doctor at the hospital for follow up support and to assess Ken’s wellbeing. Ken reports that he has a referral to nutritionist that specialises in diabetes. Ken is 65 years old. He reports that he was in hospital for diabetes. Ken reports he was released and recommend that he attend the agency. Ken reported that the doctor was concerned for his mental wellbeing as he said he felt down and frustrated while in hospital. Ken reported that he was trying to get his diabetes under control. Ken reports that he works as a train guard and works shifts. Ken finds this very tiring and has difficulty in sleeping. He grew up in poverty and only learned to read, write, and sign his name. He works long hours and does not go out in the community much except to catch up with some friends at the pub. Ken reports that he has a drinking habit and can drink up to 3 litres of wine in one sitting. Ken reports that most times when he is home, he will work in his garden. Ken also says when he is sitting on his veranda and drinking wine, that his neighbours will stare at him, so he ends up sitting inside. Ken reports that he ends up drinking more wine as he is upset that his neighbours make him feel uncomfortable. Ken mentions that he gets angry at them. Ken reports that he has fights with the neighbours as he feels that they are judging him. Ken has reported that the police have attended his house and his neighbours house due to the fighting. Ken reports that his mother and father are still alive, and they live in a nursing home. He reports he does not visit much as he feels his father never approved of him. Ken reported that he would volunteer two hours a week at the centre. Ken reports that he is divorced and does not stay in contact with his ex-wife. Ken talks about how his ex-wife was not faithful to him and he would be away a lot working. When he came home, he found she was very distant with him and they did not have any intimacy in their relationship. Ken reports he is talking with a lady from the Philippines and he supports her financially. Ken reports that he is saving for her to come over and visit and then he will return with her for a holiday and meet her family. Ken reports that he hopes to marry her and to live with her here in Australia. Ken reports that sometimes he does worry if he is being lied to about her wanting to marry him. He worries that she tells him that she loves him but wants money sent rather than a real relationship. Ken reports that he has had a couple of traumatic experiences at work where he had to deal with a passenger dying on the train. Ken reports that he worries about this happening again and avoids being on his own on his shift if he can help it. Ken has reported that he wants to change especially his drinking habits and wants to work on how he views his relationships including his family and girlfriend.
