Original Question
Formulate a response to a classmate from the following post. PICOT Question: In the pediatric population, how does the implementation of the central line bundle (daily review of line necessity, chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) baths, scrubbing the access port, changing administration sets, and routine dressing changes) compared to previous central line maintenance affect the amount of CLABSI’s within 12 months? The qualitative nature of this study I believe is historical with the purpose of the study being the number of CLABSI’s that result in a year after the implementation of new interventions. I believe this is a historical study because it looked into how central lines were being treated and maintained in the past and came up with a plan to improve the maintenance of them in the future and as Leininger (1985) wrote, “Without a past, there is no meaning to the present” (p. 108). The method of the study involved the hospital wide implementation of the bundle to the 395 bed children’s hospital as well as the “technical deployment of the information necessary via an EHR dashboard” (Chemparathy et. al, 2021). The researchers used three separate teams for the deployment of the project and the collection of data including the infection prevention and control team, the clinical unit leaders to help with deployment of the project and the data analytics team “who enabled the extraction of real-time bundle-adherence data” (Chemparathy et. al, 2021).
