Original Question

based off this response: I am happy to say that I have learned a lot about the general idea of FA based on the readings I have done so far. The most significant thing I’ve learned that I wasn’t entirely aware of is the number of potential challenges or obstacles that might occur when a practitioner tries to perform an FA. Since I’ve moved from RBT to a BCBA trainee, I think this is something I should understand at this stage in my education and profession. This is crucial as my responsibilities are changing from following behavior guidelines to creating and assessing them. I was more concerned with implementation as an RBT, but I’m now learning how to evaluate tests critically and modify them to fit into real life. According to Hanley (2012), there are a number of obstacles that may impact an FA. This includes the belief that FA’s are too complex, take too long or are even risky. These obstacles are often barriers that practitioners must figure out safety, & time constraints. Knowing these obstacles makes it easier for me to see how important it is to be flexible, innovative, and creative while planning assessments. The “brief functional analysis” is a type of functional analysis that was created in light of concerns about the time and resources needed for traditional functional analyses. In the 1994 study by Iwata et al it was designed to be more effective while still identifying the fundamental causes of challenging behaviors, such self-harming behaviors. This method includes a number of quick, carefully controlled sessions in which different specific contexts are introduced in order to determine what conditions trigger and continue the challenging behavior. what are 4-5 questions you can ask your classmates related to the readings?
