Original Question
Do you agree or disagree with this discussion post and why ! In my week two discussion, the topic was the analysis of complications that arise from prolonged hospital stays. Comparing qualitative to quantitative to my topic, qualitative design in this case is what makes the most sense. Since qualitative can be best described as being based on grounded theory and phenomenology, (Houser, 2018) comparing this design to my topic of complications that arise from prolonged hospital stays would make the most sense since in general, most people will experience being at a hospital for a prolonged period at some point in their life. Based on studies and statistics, the average length of hospital stay is about two weeks for rehabilitation medicine; almost a week and a half for neuropsychiatry; a little over a week for geriatric center admissions; and one week for internal medicine and infectious disease (Baek, 2018). With the topic of complications that arise from prolonged hospital stays, correlation research can take effect as we compare the variables of statistics and data to the topic of research. As we age, its not uncommon to see the older adult population more frequently in the hospital setting. With more older adults visiting the hospital, this poses more of a burden to healthcare as far as costs and of course, space and bed availability (Toh, 2017). With more older adults visiting the hospital, the utilization of beds is higher and the length of stay, is also typically elevated. As we already have discussed, the longer the stay, the higher likeliness of complications will arise from prolonged hospital stays. Baek, H., Cho, M., Kim, S., Hwang, H., Song, M., & Yoo, S. (2018).
