discussion response with one outside source The customer is right is a saying that everyone has heard in their lifetime. Whether or not that is true in healthcare, I find it less relevant. I think there are many things that hospitals and healthcare facilities can do to continue to put patient experience at the forefront. One of the largest issues within my hospital is access. I currently work within a pediatric hospital, and having every patient want an appointment tomorrow with varying care needs and less access than necessary makes it very difficult to ensure that every patient “feels like a CEO”. When we had to social distance our patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital tried to find ways to continue to give high quality care but also make sure that we’d be reimbursed. Telehealth took off in our hospital, and each department was required to have a certain percentage of appointments that were available to provide quicker care. Although some of the reimbursements are not as great as having an in-person visit due to billing, it is a way for patients to have their needs be addressed sooner than having to have a physical space for the visit and insurance companies are still willing to reimburse (Billing for Telehealth, n.d.). I’d stress the importance that even after the pandemic has died down, to continue to reimburse these services as an in-person visit to private insurance companies as it provides more timely care and triaging. The hospital I work at also recently implemented a new medical record system to better streamline the practices across the hospital and although it was not fun at the moment, the benefits have outweighed the negatives. Having all of our medical record information in one spot instead of across three platforms, has assisted with giving patients a better care experience where their provider has to look into one spot for the information, and it immediately sends the notes to the patients, their PCP and they can review the medications and all health information in one place through our portal. We did a large push for portal enrollment, as there were artificial intelligence integrations that made the patient/provider/caregiver experience better, and saved a lot of time and money to the hospital and the patient. This also assisted with having templates for the providers that were regulated by the department and okay for reimbursements, and easy one click options that did not put additional burden on the providers or the administrative staff. If there are hospitals and healthcare facilities that have not integrated AI and portal initiatives into their day to day workflow, I would highly recommend looking into them!
