Original Question
This 67-year-old male patient has been experiencing chronic anal pain for the last six months. Previous colonoscopy, performed three months ago, was negative. The patient has been treated medically with no pain relief. Today, an examination of the anus and rectum under anesthesia is scheduled. After obtaining sedation with anesthesia, the patient was prepped and draped in the usual fashion and placed in the lithotomy position. A digital rectal examination was found to be negative. Following the manual rectal examination, a rigid proctoscope was introduced into the anus and the scope was advanced. The anal canal and distal rectal mucosa were visualized and carefully examined. No hemorrhoids, polyps, fistula, or fissures were visualized, and no other pathology was identified. The proctoscope was removed. The patient tolerated the procedure and was taken to the recovery area in satisfactory condition. CPT code(s):
