Either way, explain what it means in terms of what it seeks to ensure, what it seeks to effect, who it seeks to impact, what it seeks to achieve, etc. The definition of food justice, explore the implications and applications of the phrase. 2) Identify a population group in need of assistance to achieve a healthy diet/food security in America. For example, the focus could be on school age children, undocumented workers or the elderly. cat 3) Provide evidence of their need, such as: food insecurity, dietary related diseases, consequences of hunger on other aspects of life. This evidence should be ample, meaning multiple statistics, and MUST be cited. Do not merely assume that a group is in need. 4) Using the Socio-Ecological model, what unique or special factors come into play for food access and food choices for this group? How does poverty affect food choices? Remember, what factors may come into play for one group may be different than those that impact another group’s food insecurity status. NOTE: You do not have to lay out each level of the SEM, just keep it in mind and make sure you are referencing at least some of it. 5) Describe a government or social program available for this group in terms of helping to alleviate their need. What is its intended purpose of the program? What is its strengths and weaknesses? Provide cited evidence. 6) In your concluding paragraph you must address the following question: What is society’s responsibility for assisting this group? For example, should it include access to only healthy foods? Should we have a food-centered solution, a poverty-centered solution, or something else? Have at least 5 references.
