PEER DISCUSSION POST Hello, I chose “The Atkins Diet will help you lose weight.” The link to the Atkins.com gives an overview of the benefits of limiting carbs. These specific diets include Atkins 20, 40, & 100 limit carbohydrates to help the body burn fat instead of sugar for energy. Energy levels throughout the day are higher, allowing people to reach weight loss and maintain weight loss goals. According to the studies written about on Thelancet.com was found weight loss achieved was associated with the duration of the diet and restriction of energy intake, but not with the restriction of carbs. Reports of high fat food and limitation on carbs produces weight loss. Limiting carbs depletes the glycogen stored, leading to retained bound water. I learned in this weeks learning resources, glycogen is short-term energy storage and the presence of glycogen in muscle cells as a sources of glucose allows ATP (energy currency) to be produced for a longer time during exercise.
