In the example, the first rhythm takes up half of a 3-second interval. There are … Show more So, I am trying to figure out how to calculate the heart rate when the rhythm strip is less than 3 seconds. According to the book, you take the 2 R waves and multiply it by 40 and you will get 60. Here is the confusing part, how the hell did the author get an approximate heart rate to be 80 bpm? So, if you take 1500/60 ( assuming its regular) you get 25 bmp. Or you take 60*2 (cause you doubling that 1.5 seconds) you get 120bpm. Or the most probable cause is you take 60*1.5 (you are adding another 1.5 seconds) and you will get 90 bmp. So, where the hell is 80 come from???
