Original Question

Case Scenario Margaret O’Brien is a 33-year-old nursing student. She is married and has a 13-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. She is admitted to the hospital with a temperature of 39.4°C/103°F; pulse rate: 92 bpm (weak); respiratory rate: 28 cpm (shallow respirations); and blood pressure: 122/80 mmHg. She was noted to have a productive cough (small amounts of thick pale pink sputum), and rapid (but shallow), labored respirations. While taking a nursing history, MM, RN, finds that patient MOB has had a “chest cold” (inflammation/irritation of the airways [acute bronchitis]) for 2 weeks and has been experiencing shortness of breath (especially on exertion), weakness and body malaise and difficulty of breathing (DOB) when lying down. 1 day prior to admission, she developed an elevated temperature and began to experience “pain” in her “lungs”, especially when coughing. Upon further assessment, MM, RN observed that the patient’s skin is pale, dry and warm to touch, with poor skin turgor; her mucous membranes are dry, cheeks are flushed, and she is experiencing chills. Auscultation reveals inspiratory crackles with diminished breath sounds in the right (upper and lower) lung. Question: 1. Formulate behavioral outcomes based on the case scenario above.
