Part 3: Case study A repeat chest x-ray is performed on Day 5 of hospitalisation and reviewed. Consolidation on the chest x-ray is improving, but reveals a mass. The primary care provider orders a bronchoscopy. Mr Bakas acute delirium state has improved and he is able to provide consent. The bronchoscopy is performed on the same day, at 1200hrs. On Day 7 the cytology report confirms cancerous cells. A family meeting is organised for later that day to meet and discuss the results and probable outcomes. Both Mrs Bakas and Anastasia met with the Doctors and Registered Nurse, separately from Mr Bakas, and then altogether. Several areas are covered including Mr Bakas current condition, the test findings and advanced care plans. Anastasia is keen to include complimentary therapies and to discuss available healthcare and services options for her parents. All agree and supportive of Mr Bakas wish to return home as soon as practically possible. Mr Bakas does not wish to have any further interventions and would like to be treated conservatively, and allow nature to take its natural course.
