Mr. Goldberg was diagnosed a year ago with coronary artery disease and secondary hypertension; however, he had symptoms indicating cardiovascular problems for a couple of years prior to his diagnoses. His fasting cholesterol levels have ranged from 250 to 300 mg/dL, his triglycerides and HDL levels are also significantly above normal, and his blood pressure readings have averaged 180 systolic and 100 diastolic. His doctor describes these findings as numbers Mr. Goldberg absolutely must decrease to more normal limits for the chance to have a longer, healthier life. At the time of initial diagnoses, he was advised to take medication, increase his exercise, and control his diet to lose weight (at least 25 lbs.), but he has made little progress toward these recommended goals.
