He has just arrived on the unit from the OR and has an external fixator device in place. Serosanguineous fluid is oozing from the fixator insertion sites. He is receiving Dilaudid using a PCA pump. Patient #5: Mrs. V., a 30 year old, who is in for acute abdominal pain. She has colon cancer and is scheduled for a bowel resection at 1pm and is NPO. She will need an NGT placed. She is tearful.
