Original Question

The Initial: Share your thoughts Describe the ethical dilemma. Was the distress due to a conflict among the ethical principles or a conflict in ethical theories? Discuss the following: What were all of the possible solutions to the issue? What decision was ultimately made and why? My response: Ethical dilemmas Thankfully so far in my career I have not experienced many ethical dilemmas. The best example I could think of involves a time where during my first year as a nurse I was floated to another unit to be a resource, aka charge nurse. I am not sure how common this is in other places, but this was a big issue: I was a new nurse, and I was being tasked to oversee an unfamiliar unit when I not only did not possess CN training but I was still very unsure of my own skills. Unfortunately, being too afraid to stand up to management at that time I acquiesced. Although fortunately nothing major happened, it was one of the most terrible and anxiety-inducing shifts I ever had. Solution-wise, this is an issue for management to sort out, either by sending someone more experienced or hiring more people. I would for certain never agree to a request like that again, until I was properly trained to oversee a unit and I was certain I was the right person for the task, despite my facility’s need. I understand the situation COVID has left many hospitals in, but just as high patient to nurse ratios are dangerous, it is absolutely unsafe to place a person somewhere they should not be. How would you respond to my answer informative or uninformative or missing information and why?
