Original Question
Answer if you agree or disagree with the answers to questions and why What screening tests should be obtained to determine the risk for preterm labor? There are a variety of tests that should be obtained to determine the risk for preterm labor. For example, a pelvic exam, a biophysical assessment with monitoring equipment. Having it with monitoring equipment is important because it can also show signs of decreased fetal movement and any signs of the fetus being compromised(Scannell & Ruggiero, 2022). Another test that should be done is the ultrasonography because it will help indicate the the fetal heart rate, gestation age, fetal growth, fetal anatomy, fetal presentation, fetal genetic disorders/physical anomalies, placental position or function, and adjunct to other invasive tests (Scannell & Ruggiero, 2022). If the client is in preterm labor, what medications would the nurse expect to be ordered, and what are the priorities for the nurse to assess post-administration? (Include dose, side effects and expected outcomes of the medication). The type of medications that may be ordered are tocolytics because the priority of the nurse is to stop preterm labor, unless there are contraindication for suppressing preterm labor. Some Tocolytiics medications that would be administered are nifedipine 20 mg orally; the adverse affects of this medication would be orthostatic hypotension, Magnesium sulfate Loading dose 4g IV infusion over 30 minutes; the adverse effect of this medication would be magnesium toxiticy. Other medications that may be given are Indomethacin, Beta-adrenergic agent, and Betamethasone or Dexamethsone (Scannell & Ruggiero, 2022).
