Original Question

Can you help me reply to this student in paragraph form? A response to any post on the board. It adds new information, life experience, research information that you have found, etc. The student: Celiac disease is an auto immune condition that involves the immune system reacting to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. If you’ve been diagnosed with Celiac disease, by intaking gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Repeated exposure will gradually damage the lining of the small intestine, which will eventually lead to issues absorbing minerals and nutrients in food. By the lining being damaged, it will start to cause diarrhea, weight loss, bloating fatigue, and that can sometimes lead to serious complications. The symptoms of Celiac disease can range from mild- severe. They can change over time, and they vary from person to person. Some people have no symptoms and some only experience them later on in life. A person may not know they have Celiac disease until they develop a nutrition deficiency or anemia. Children are more likely to develop digestive symptoms that can affect growth and development. There’s no cure for Celiac disease. It can be manageable by following a strict gluten-free diet and that will help manage symptoms and promote intestinal healing. The signs and symptoms can vary from children to adults. In adults: Abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and constipation. In children: Nausea and vomiting, chronic diarrhea, swollen belly, and pale foul-smelling stools. The inability to absorb may result in: Damage to tooth enamel, weight loss, irritability, delayed puberty, failure to thrive for infants and neurological symptoms, including attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder(ADHD), learning disabilities, headaches, and lack of muscle coordination and seizures.
