Original Question
Great insights on these 2 studies. I really liked how you recommended combining study designs with a mixed methods approach for stronger results. I had also thought the HPV study could benefit from repeat collections over time to monitor changes instead of a one-time collection. Another thought that came about during my research, came from the idea of offering self-collection/ swabbing, since cervical collection is such an intrusive process in order to get more women tested for deadly cervical cancer. Arossi et al (2016) posed this idea in their study entitled “HPV testing: a mixed-method approach to understand why women prefer self-collection in a middle-income country”. They offered patients the opportunity for self-collection swabbing or in-clinic collection swabbing. 2,616 women chose self-collection, while only 433 choose the clinic. That’s only 1 in 6 patients who chose the clinic option. The women who responded with self-collection siad that most chose it because of 2 factors: long wait times for health clinic appointment availability and not having to take time off of work or domestic responsibilities (Arossi 2016).
