Lincoln- Oral Aversion Intervention Session 1 21-month old baby boy with a complicated cardiac history. He has undergone multiple cardiac surgeries since birth. His postoperative course was complicated by vocal cord paralysis. He has significant stridor at baseline as well as oral feeding issues. He is status-post gastrostomy-tube placement. He has had additional supraglottoplasty procedures since the first procedure. He has been receiving speech therapy for the past year. He has had multiple VFSS exams as well as regular appointments with aerodigestive team. Lincoln demonstrates oropharyngeal dysphagia with emerging oral motor skills to functionally consume age-appropriate food by mouth. He demonstrates oral aversion to textures, flavors, and temperatures, resulting in hyperactive gag reflex which impact his acceptance of oral nutrition/hydration. He also suffers from reflux, which at times causes him to gag due to the sensation alone, or do to the fact that he puts his fingers in his mouth as a response to what he feels coming up into his posterior oral cavity or onto his tongue. In therapy, he is working on alternating bites and sips, chewing, and accepting greater oral volume to wean g-tube volume. This is his first session recorded.
