Original Question
I found an article Translational research and symptom management in oncology nursing. The research looked at genetics and inflammatory markers caused by different cancer treatments including chemotherapy. The focus was then symptom management for patients experiencing complications related to cancer treatment. The study used a systematic review of 18 clinical trials that looked at inflammatory markers and change of cytokines in patients treated with chemotherapy. The review then studied the correlation of the cytokines and symptom cluster associated. It allowed nursing to educate patients on the why behind the symptoms and focuses on non pharmacologic methods of symptom management. The clinical trials varied in patient populations, but looked at the constant variable of cytokines and changes after chemotherapy. The research used was a comparison of clinical trials. This was important as the clinical trials analyzed focused on the cytokines of study and this understanding could be utilized to understand symptom management, and therefore understand why many pharmacological interventions were not effective, and this education can positively impact patients and open the opportunity for non-pharmacological interventions (Lopes-Junior et al., 2016). (how can I respond and appreciate the post and reflect on the discussion)
