Original Question

Good afternoon everyone. It is weak & already. Time is flying by! I hope everyone is ahead of schedule and doing well with end of course projects. Well this weeks topic asks should we attempt to troubleshoot a customers firearm without being able to fix fasteners or small parts? This is a question that in my opinion depends. If there are a lot of screw and you don’t have the right tools this could be very problematic. One we could strip the head of screws and even with proper tools this could happen due to age or rust. If we don’t know how top fix this situation by extracting the screw and replacing we could be in a bad spot. SO if I didn’t have a clue how to fix a broken screw I would probably stay away from older firearms. Very important to know how to re tap if the threads become damaged. Now if you in shop setting and you have a staff member that is qualified to make these repairs then I would say yes give it a go. We all have to learn by doing it. Now again if the person is solo and has no clue then I say stay away from it until you have gained the knowledge to properly service that firearm. Many safety factors to consider and liability on the gunsmith if the firearm is not properly serviced. Internal parts should be a straight no if the person doing the trouble shooting does not know how to properly fix. That could result in a very bad situation.
